1200 kit questions n00b HELP PLEASE
ok trying to decide on what 1200 kit that I should put on my 883 sporty. Should I buy one part by part or what. I know what all I have to have for the bike for it to work but I am trying to find what are the best parts to use. Should I use genuine HD jugs or what. I have been eyeing this kit here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...QQcmdZViewItem but I am not sure that this would be the best way to go for my bike. The other things that I plan on doing at the same time are heads and a new carb. and prob other stuff I am not sure as of yet whatall I wanna do. I was justgonna see where the best place to buy the inital kit for the bike.So if anyonehas any advice or help please shoot it this way

RE: 1200 kit questions n00b HELP PLEASE
I have been reading where people who have done the conversion on 04 and up bikes using high compression pistons are having excessive oil consumption . I believe I would do a little research before I blowed a ton of money. second I prefer to buy critical componenets from an established buisness I can access face to face, that way if there is a problem its easier to get satisfaction than exchanging e-mails or phone conversations.

RE: 1200 kit questions n00b HELP PLEASE
The kit I put on my 883R was "pieced" together. The parts guy at my dealership called harley itself and asked them what was the best way to go so we did the Screaming Eagle heads, some aftermarket cams, 1200 pistons and cylinders, better push rods and 1200 ignition module. Gained 20+ HP and TQ. I've been told and have seen on here that you can probably make more HP with buell heads. I also have SE II pipes and a stage one air cleaner.
Good luck with the build.

ERIC....Is all of yours genuine harley stuff as in the pistons as well as the jugs ????? Did you do the nelson cams in your bike ????? and what did everything run if you dont mind me asking and if you dont wanna share on here if you could pm me it thanks a lot
JWB....that is what I wanna do is buy from a place around here but they wanna bore my jugs that I have now and I dont wanna do that I want stock 1200 jugs ir aftermarket ones, and I have a buddy that is a expert on the evo motor's as in taking it apart and putting it all back and what not, but he is not sure on what would be the best way to make the mosts reliable hp for the bike. I have not done much on the high compression , but I will look in to that now that you say it. I am gonna part it all together and tear it down this winter why I am starting the search now

I did the nrhs 1250 kit with 10.5:1 domed pistons. I also used some stock 1200 heads that a buddy gave me. Also put in andrews N4 cams and a mikuni HSR42 carb. And I went from a bike that already had a HD 1200 conversion done on it. After the nrhs 1250 kit, it was still a huge improvement in power over the HD 1200 kit. And I just got a 30tooth front belt pully to smooth out the rpms at highway speeds.
Sources of my parts:
Mikuni hsr42 carb, brand new on ebay: about $250
Andrews N4 cams: $210 from Jireh cycles
1250 kit: www.nhrsperformance.com $750
Anyhow, if your gonna get into the headwork and cams, I highly suggest checking out NRHS performance, Dan over there, can help you decide on the best configuration of parts and components for your conversion, by far the best costomer service I've ever delt with. They also offer some nice services to make the conversion easier for you like gapping the rings properly and sending you the kit ready to bolt on. I did all the work myself, but I know others who have had them prep the pistons.

RE: 1200 kit questions n00b HELP PLEASE
I paid more than the average person on here would pay because I had the dealership install everything. Out the door was close to 3K. The parts themselves were not expensive, the labor was what killed me. I just didn't feel safe doing something like that on a new bike. Plus I would rather keep the warranty in case something goes wrong with it. When we were looking for the best way to go we found that when you buy the stock 1200 heads, they come bare and we would have to buy the valvetrain for them. We found that buying the screaming eagle heads(with valvetrain already in them) was cheaper than buying everything for the stock heads, and they flow a little better too. I'm not sure what cams are in it. I know I should know but he never said the name of them he just said he knew of some good performance cams to use. I think my compression is fairly high but I'm not sure of the exact numbers. I think it is in the 10 range. So yeah I guess you can say everything was genuine Harley stuff. I know I probably paid way too much for the kit but I am happy with it.

RE: 1200 kit questions n00b HELP PLEASE
There is another company that routinely offers a conversion kit on ebay. It includes Buell heads. Quite a bit more $$$, but a 1200 with Buell heads, that would be one HOT bike. I think that kit normally sells for around $900. Which isn't too bad, if you can find just a set of Buell heads, they will cost ya that much.

I just got back from the dealership and while I was there I asked what kinda setup I had. The cams are screaming eagle performance cams part #25197-04 w/.551 lift but im not sure about duration and I have stock 1200 pistons part #16463-04 with 10:5:1 compression, heads again are screaming eagle part #16677-05. The ignition module is screaming eagle also.
Hope this helps you. Again good luck with the build.
