I'm having trouble installing a LED headlight on my '01 Sportster...the rubber inside the can has 2 chrome rings...why??

 

one to hold the rubber to the bucket and the other to hold the headlight to the rubber

I had an issue fitting an led in my 48 and used some gorilla double sided tape to bridge the gap left with the difference in width of the oem light and the led.

 

The 48 has a different setup than the 2001 model. The older sportster had a rubber mounting boot between the headlight bucket and headlight to cut the vibration down that was taking out the headlight bulb. The 48 has a rubber mounted engine and does not need nor use the headlight rubber insulator boot.

 

I can't get the rubber to hold the LED headlight in even with the clamp tightened all the way down!

 

Rubber is probably wore out. Look at this article that seemed to have the same problem and how they fixed it. Hope this helps.

I finally got it to stay in the rubber...the shoulder on the LED light is wider and won't go all the way in the rubber...haven't rode it yet because of thunderstorms here... I'll know when I ride if it shakes out and 60 bucks down the hjghway!

 

Why does my headlight have a little chrome eye brow at the top? I like the look of my bike w/o it!

 

want a newer bucket? and black brow?
