Default Relays Cross Reference

Use this info at your own risk.

Searching for replacement relays for my 2007, 1200C, I found info on another forum saying a Duralast 19283 could be used for both the starter and system relay. I was near an O'Reily Auto Parts yesterday and they crossed that number to a BWD brand R3223. I purchased two and plugged both into my bike and it started fine so I assume they will work. The BWD relays were less expensive. These relays have and additional contact that isn't on the factory relays but the receptacle has a slot for it to fit in. I guess it isn't needed or used but nothing bad happened when I started my bike.

Now to tell you the problem I am chasing. My bike has been shutting off intermittently. I thought it might be a battery problem but after cleaning and tightening the battery connections and checking the battery and charging system the problem reoccurred.

It is throwing codes P0261 Front Injector Open/Low , P0263 Rear Injector Open/Low, and P1003 (System relay contacts open).

Apparently the relays are a common problem so I am in hopes this will cure my shutting off. Time will tell but I haven't had a chance to ride it long enough with the new relays to confirm.

Since the motorcycle was still running most of the time I threw both of my old relays in one of the boxes and put them in my fork bag for backup.

The '07's were known to be bad for fuse box corrosion including the fuse sockets and the sockets for the two relays.
When I checked mine there was quite a bit of corrosion in there, I used one of those cardboard/wood nail files things I stole from the wife and whittled into a point, I used it to reach in and sand the fuse and relay contacts then blew them out with compressed air and stuffed in some dielectric grease and have had no problems since.
Corrosion in the fuse box can cause all kinds of weird intermittent electrical problems.

Thanks for the heads up on that!

All my fuse and relay contacts were greased. A couple of the relay contacts were discolored but I didn't see any corrosion.

One of the threads I read on another forum the guy claimed he took his relays apart and found the inside contacts to be corroded also. They will burn like old ignition points over time.
