Default Tuning Pre-Stage 1 Worth It?

I always debate doing mods, and actually had a DK Custom air cleaner but sold it as I like the stock 48 ham cam. I also tried the XiEDs which I didn't notice anything with besides a drop in MPG. This leads me to my question of whether or not there is a point in tuning a semi-stock (only slip ons) bike? I would like to throw maybe a K&N filter in my stock intake, but other than that I don't plan on doing anything else. Would I benefit from say the Fuel Moto Micro EFI tuner? After throwing on the slip ons I noticed a drastic drop in low end. Would the tuner do anything to help restore any fraction of that?

Some will say tuning on a stock bike will make it run better since its lean from the factor which is true, the short answer is no you to do not need to tune your bike save your money it is 98-99% stock i would not say its a stage 1 to be honest. The stock a/c with a k&N filter is still a stock a/c with just just a better filter so your motor is still taking in the same about of air your your exhaust is flowing stock as well, if anything and I mean if your just looking to feel better about it, to the stage 1 download for Harley is not much of anything but some better time and maybe a rev limted bump so its a ok option it cost me $150 in cali, CA but i did like it. i have a dyno tune now for my stage 1.

Wait unitl you go for a full open a/c / full exhaust.

A concern I typically have with Stage 1 is that gains aren't realized unless your pushing high into the RPM band, like over 4K. Will the modest rider really notice much?

depending on the tunes adjustments to afr, you will see gains. you will not see 400hp but, there will be a noticeable difference. you will also see a cooler running engine.

my bike had a lean hd stage 1 download and after hitting it with the powervision, it became a different bike.

micro tuner... no, unless you HAVE TO... even then, it's not life or death to hold off for a better tuner with more functionality. no need to rush

I agree with cvaria, but you may want to try DK Customs TTIs to help with your low end torque....easy to install..and inexpensive.

What do you recommend over the Micro EFI tuner?

I did try the TTI's, both sizes. I couldn't use them with my baffles installed, so I took them out and put the TTI's in. The smaller pair didn't do anything, the larger pair made a noticeable difference but they stuck out the end of the pipe. My exhaust has a slash cut and the hole for the baffles is close enough to the forward most part of the opening, which made the TTI stick out, and I wasn't going to keep it like that.

Also tried one of their air cleaners but wasn't a fan of the quality. I think I might look into the SE kit and K&N kit.

Many on here use Micro EFI tuners and have good things to say about them but I would recommend the Powervision with Autotune. A bit pricey but if you plan to make other changes to your bike, it will be worth the cost. Best tuner out there for your money IMHO. I use the PV tuner to monitor data like engine temp, rpm, battery, etc.

Do you know without looking it up the price difference? I don't plan to do anything past Stage 1. I saw the Micro EFI tuner is at $200.

dyno tune with powercommander V and or mirco tuner. but i head that fuel moto puts some pretty good canned maps together. you can look into the FP3 but for a little more money you should get a power vision.

I believe Fuel Moto has the Power Vision for about $400 right now.
I would second getting the Power Vision.

My stock bike runs much better and gets better gas mileage after several auto tune sessions. (stock it was actually running rich even though everyone says they run lean)
I was able to adjust my speedometer to be accurate.

I also like the gauges. I monitor rpm, engine temp, and fuel used.
