Default Remove seat post 13' Iron 883

Hey, need help with a new seat for my 2013 Iron 883. I bought an "on the frame" seat from Mother Road Customs which is supposed to lay flat on the frame. But as you guys know, there is a post/bolt in the middle of where the original seat clamps on to. I obviously have to remove this in order to install the new seat, but having trouble finding any steps on how to do it. More importantly, if I remove it, do I have to replace it with anything? It seems to go through the rear fender and I Don't wanna have it be loose if I remove it and not replace it with something. I'll try to post some picks, so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Thanks for any suggestions.

That post is threaded on the other end and runs through the rear fender and has a nut on it.Just remove it and replace it with a regular bolt and nut.

It is a wheel out job to get at the screw on the underside of the fender.

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=hdmc&a=988&b=40&c=0&d=2 013%20XL%20883N%20IRON%20883%20(LE)%20FENDER%20-%20REAR

Cut part #2 down to whatever length is best to take a nut. Put screw in from the top for the cleanest look. Have 1 1/2 turns of thread showing through nut.

I simply removed mine so I could fit my Mustang seat and never replaced it. I have at least 150,000 miles like that with no issues.

Just thinking aloud...

If the fender starts to chatter against the frame it might take the paint off. Putting in a bolt will hold it steady, not an actual support point required by the fender.

Agreed. I just replaced my fender and there was no chipping in that area, however I may go back and add a bolt as it cannot hurt.

The way I looked at it was since that bolt goes through the frame and fender, and the fender also supports the seat, and the seat supports my a$$, I feel better having the extra support.
