Default new bars! (Switches question)

so i am going to be changing bars soon ad i don't want to use my old switches because its a pain in the butt, so I went to HD and for my 2016 XL1200V (72) each switch is separate ; piece by piece. I know the older models are one piece for the right and one solid piece for the left. Can I use the older model switches ?!?!

I just picked one up 70222-96B but only fits up to 2013. Includes left right upper and lower.

Why is it a pain to reuse your switches? It's like, 2 torx screws. I just swapped the bars on my 2016 roadster, and it was simple. Didn't even unplug anything. Just unscrewed the switch housing, set it to the side, and put them on the new bars.

Question

I'm confused! The switch assemblies may have changed in appearance over the years, but their basic construction hasn't changed in the last 50 years! They swap over easily, as Steve says, so tell us more, so we can help!
