Whats a fair price for a Sportster
I have been trying to find a Sportster in my area for what I feel is a fair price. My price range is somewhere around $5000.00 maybe up to $6000.00 if the bike is really good. I am looking for a 1200 anywhere from 04-06.
Am I in the ballpark on the price or too low. All the bikes I find are 7000.00-8000.00 and I feel that may be alittle high for a bike that cost maybe around a thousand more brand new.
What do you think?

Harleys have great re-sale. It all depends on the model you are looking for also. For your price range and year range, you're better off looking at an 883. 1200 models start around $9000 and go to about $11000 new. I am looking at an '05 1200 Custom right now, and I think it is at a great price of $7900. You have to remember that used bikes usually have alot of extras on them also.

I think you are close, you might want to find one you really like and stretch a little higher on price. You are still going to be at least 25% less then msrp on a new one, you can still get one with a warrenty and it will only have a few miles on it. I would go for it.

Not to rain on your parade, but i don't think you are going to find what you are looking for in the price range you mentioned. Either save up some more cash or go older. There are deals out there so keep looking--Craigslist, E-bay, etc. This time of year the prices are a bit inflated as well.

I've been watching the market on 1200's for about two months. Passed on one at $4,950 - it was an unbelievable price since it was an 02 with 5k miles. Only problem was that the color scheme was absolutely dorky - probably the ugliest Harley I've ever seen.In retrospect, I should have bought it and spent some money on a good paint job. Ended up buying a low mileage03 Anniversery 883XL Hugger for $5,100. Great bike for the money and won't lose any when I sell it.
Any other decent 04 - 06 1200 that I've seen is well into the $7k & up range. If you have the credit rating, I've been told that HD Finance can put you into a new one for about $125.00/month with zero down. Am checking this out tomorrow to see if it's true. If it is, my Hugger is up for sale.

Ukes in kenosha , WI had 3 1200Rs they were willing to get rid of for 6700 each all had about 2600 miles on them. I choose the black one with the stage one already done. They were asking 7300 for them , but edmunds had them apraised for 6600. They did not even haggel when I gave them my offer. I guess it all depends on where you live.

I'm selling my 07 Sporty (XL1200L) for $8500. Mainly because I've riden the hell out of it for the past few months (3,000+) and I feel that if I sell it before I move I'll be in a better financial situation. Could I sell it for about 1k more? Most definately, but I wouldn't have many folks biting for it.
I also got a hell of a deal on it when I bought it (back when finances were good), so I'm still recovering more than what I put into it.
