Default So a little baffled about something

So with spring upon us I figured it was a good time to change my key fob battery. So I'm thinking while the battery is out I'm going to try and start it and run through the PIN number to start it as I've never tried it before. Well with the battery out the bike started right up. Why would I have a fob if it isn't needed? I know the bike has a security PIN number because I had to go through figuring out what it was when I bought it because previous owner didn't know it.

So if I understand you correctly, you DID figure out what the code is.
Did you change it ? I'm not positive if you can 'set it to nothing'.
(ie no code/fob required)

As you probably know, if you did work out the code, you dont need
the fob with you to start it, or in the case that the battery in the fob
dies, you can still start the engine using the code.

I've never tried starting either of my bikes with the 'battery out of
the fob', but I have tried when the fob was 'out of range' and they would
not start. Seems like 'out of range' and 'no battery' would be the
same... Did you perhaps put the security system into 'transport' mode ?

good luck,

T.

I did figure out what the code was shortly after I bought it. I did not change the code. I took the battery out of the fob and for the heck of it tried to start it and it fired right up. I had not yet tried to enter the code

I could be little stupid here. Didn't realize it could be disarmed. Thought the fob always had to be near it

it's supposed to work that way, but it disarms the minute you turn the key or hit the on button if the fob(s) is near. near is a good ways. mine will start if the fob is in the garage.

if you pin'd it and left it on it will start. if you didn't pin start or disarm prior to removing the battery... there are some questions that need answers.

I did some searching. Looks like they changed it in 2007? I'm assuming I had it disarmed and didn't even know I could disarm it lol

Ok did some playing around with it. It arms by holding the button in and disarms with a double tap. If armed it won't even start with the fob. Just didn't work the way I thought it did. Learned something new today lol.

I didn't realize your fob had button(s) - mine has no button.
Mine is a 'proximity' type fob. If the motor/ign is turned off
then the fob goes out of range, the system will arm (blinkers
flash twice)

Glad you figured it out.

Security prior to 2007 is a button type and has to be armed. If it isn't armed, the bike will start normally, battery in the FOB or not.
