"Tapping" sound...
Ok I new to the forum here.. And I see ALOT of info... so i thought id throw this out there. I traded in my 04 883 custom for a 2007 1200 low, I noticed after @ 600 miles on the bike that exactly between 58 and 66 mph there is a tapping sound ( ALOT like valve tap or lash) comming from the bike. It does vary with the RPM's and its dead quiet at 55 and at 70mph... smooth as glass! At first i thought it may be just a bad batch of fuel.. but all i run is 93 octane and either BP or Chevron gas. I took it to the dealer and 2 mechanics rode it and then said they didn't hear anything that wasn't normal for a sportster. BUT they both wore full face helmets and i were a brain bowl so i hear a bit more noise then they may have. The sound is very consistant and rather load I have a set of Rush slip ons on the bike and I ussually have an ear bud in from my mp3 and can still hear it over everything else! Im no master mechanic but i have been around enough to know that its a mechanical sound. maybe timming? or valve adjustment? Just curious what other may think. Thanks for any suggestions. Greg
