After prowling these posts and checking dealers, I finally bought my bike today. Got an 883 custom, black. Bad part was that I had to drive to a dealer 130 miles away and drive a bike that is 200 pounds heavier than anything I have ever ridden before down interstate 40 without going over 50. It was rough, but me and my bike made it home safely. Although I think I will stay off the interstate until my break in period is over.

Congrats and good luck with your new bike! I also has to drive the interstate home for my first ride. I had never drove on teh streets and was alittle apprensive - but quickly got over that!! By the end of the ride was cruzing about 70. The dealer told me to just drive it like I would typically - so I did not baby it as I probably should have. I have the well harley check soon - So I guess I will see then it got hurt. I hop not! I love driving this and hate to even park it for one day! Happy riding!

Congrats! I didn't know about not going over 50. I do remember being told to ease it up to higher speeds, & not to "gun it" 'til it was warmed up.

 

I picked up my bike 2 weeks ago and it was my 1st motorcycle ride ever on the street and I took the highway home (interstate 89). I had taken the MSF course 2 weeks earlier and was very apprehensive about riding the bike home and was happy to find that everything came together as soon as I throttled up and got out on the road.
