I just did the Hammer 1250 kit. Really good results. I was doing it alone and it was a big PITA to spin the rear wheel while trying to get the timing marks to line up because you can't observe while turning the wheel. So, I put a pencil in the #1 spark plug hole so I could see it rise while I turned the rear wheel. Well, the pencil stopped, everything stopped. I went up and pulled half a pencil out of the spark plug hole. The eraser and two inches of pencil were in the jug. This was when I was doing the static ignition timing - almost done. Oh well, off came the head to retrieve half a pencil. Next time I got my son to watch for the timing marks.

Haven't been able to finish this because I've been chained to my desk all week; it's been cold enough outside that I didn't really mind. Last night I got the engine just about put back together. The whole thing went smoothly, I feel good about it. Should be running in a few hours.
After the first heat cycle I'm going to replace the pressure plate in the clutch. I'm still having occasional problems with it shifting up into 4th and 5th and I don't know what else to try at this point. I thought I had it solved with the heel-toe shifter but it started happening again. I've adjusted it several times, changed the fluid.. I don't know what else to do except take it apart and see if something looks wrong. I figured as long as I was that far into it I'd change the pressure plate in case it's got a crack I can't see.
I've never ridden anything bigger than my 883, so I'm excited as hell to try this bitch out.
