Default xl1200s Turn signal help

Hey guys, new member here. I've been trying to wire up some aftermarket turn signals to my xl1200s but I can't seem to make them work, when I have the front and rear hooked up the fronts stay on as running lights but the rears don't turn on until I hit the turn signal button and when this happens the fronts turn off. on top of that I think some wires that shouldn't touch did touch and I heard a small pop and now none of my lights work at all... I've always just had dirtbikes so anything electronic is an utter mystery to me, any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Well the pop was probably a fuse blown. So check the fuses. Are the new turn signals LED or not? Could just be some wires mixed up. Fronts should be on as running lights but obviously not go out when you turn on turn signals. Your rears wont come on as running lights turn only so it sounds like the back is fine.

It's possible the touching wires also cause a grounding issue to make the front lights turn off. Clean up your wiring. Check fuses. Then try it again

hey thanks for the response, I don't know why I was thinking that the rear signals stayed on. The front signals do flash when activated but the flashing is very dim and fast while it looks like the rear is flashing fast but isn't going completely off. Yes they are led and very cheap ones at that haha. Could I need a flasher relay? Like I said I'm totally oblivious to how this stuff works so seriously any insight at all is pure gold to me.

I'll be honest. I don't know a lot about LED lights because I never messed with them but you may need a load compensator. I know a lot of guys need them for LEDs. Someone with more knowledge will probably chime in and confirm or not.

From what I've read it looks like I need a load equalizer. Hopefully that's all I need. And the new fuse obviously. Thanks.

weird turn of events. Load compensators didn't help. Somehow the hazards work perfectly though. You reckon it's a relay problem?

So I did some reading and it turns out Illinois does not require turn signals, I didn't want them in the first place so yeah. Problem solved.
