The string will work, but I would use wax dental floss instead. I used it to get my pesky front fork reflectors off and the wax residue came off faster than the adhesive.

I have the chrome HD strip on my tank, I think it looks great. Way better then the stock one did...good luck.

 

Looks freakin sick, concerned about the gas cap though.&nbsp\\; I think I will do mine anyway.

 

Lighter fluid or Coleman camp fuel would work alot better then wd-40 for removing the adhesive. It won't hurt your paint either

It is quite common to find them a little crooked.&nbsp\\; Mine is, and I have seen a few new bikes in dealerships the same.&nbsp\\; Not saying it's ok, and I don't know why they are crooked.

I am going to take my tank trim off as I don't think the brushed finish fits in with the rest of the bike and I also hope it will look less crooked.

 

did mine yesterday,,stupid, did not do pic of before. Will try today to do an after as there is a post on this subject above with same tank as mine that has it on. I used fishing line to get mine off and goo gone to get the stuff off...worked awesome. looks way better (reminds me of my 883 though as the gas cap sits a little high). Just do it!!

After reading this thread I took mine off... once the strip was gone I could see the weld a tiny bit and it looked... like I could see where the F-ing weld going down the center of the tank was. SO...I bought the chrome strip and it looks SWEEEEEEEEEET!. My wallet is $125 lighter though!!!
