any regrets buying a sportster?
i bought my 87 sportster 883 with high compression 1200 conversion a month ago. rebuilt from the ground up by a friend just before i got it from him. runs great and sounds good. smoked my buddies 04 fi dyna lowrider, so power is up to par for a sportster.
maybe i was expecting too much, thought with 1200 cc's it would have more power than it does.
im really torn on what i want to do with this bike. i won't lose money when i sell so thats not an issue. wife who is a great lady will be very dissapointed/pissed/etc... if i get another sport bike.
maybe i could get a used v max, she'll def think its a cruiser
first time hd owners, any regrets? or am i just never happy?

RE: any regrets buying a sportster?
None at all, I could have afforded almost any bike out there, but ever since I rode my brothers 1200 five years ago, it's what I wanted. IMO a Harley is a Harley regardless of what it is, but everyone has their own views on that. I look at it like this, a Harley you "ride in" and everything else you "ride on" as freekinfreak said, I only wish I bought it sooner!

I think you also need to really figure out what it is you want. 1200cc's is plenty of power, but we all know any 600cc sportbike out there would eat up a Sportster. That's not what they're made for. If you looking for something just to go fast, stunt, whatever, then a HD is probably not what you need.
Think about it this way: Any of us who love hot rod cars, know that a 1969 Camaro would get torn up on the twisties by a little Miata or something, but give me the Camaro any day of the week to cruise through town, go to shows and gets lots of attention.

No regrets on my Sportster. Over 30K in two years w/o a problem. Been in Rolling Thunder 3 times. Cruised to the Outer Banks of NC from Northern Maryland and back in one day. No problem (except that I was verrrrry tired after going over 600miles in a day).I have a 2005 883XCL.
