There is always somebody quicker out there whether it be talent or machine.
That guy on the V-Rod comes up to some guy on a GSX R 600 and suddenly he's eating big dust.
The GSX 600 guy gets taken out by its' bigger brother who gets its' wheels blown off by some guy on a
tricked out Hyabusa and so on and so forth.
Ride your own ride man.

You're absolutely right.
How does a 120hp/600lb bike compete with a 178rwhp/380lb bike?

What is holding back the V-rod the most is its weight. The bike is just heavy. It weighs mid 600's wet. It doesn't have the top end of a crotch rocket either: only able to acheive a top speed in the mid/top 130's. It would probably get into the 10's if they managed to get it down to the 400 lb range.

Hey it's all good! If I wanted to go real fast I'd have bought a crotch rocket. It's fun to watch them accelerate... I just hope they don't end up hitting something. Case in point: One of those crotch rocketeers zipped past me on a two-lane narrow sidehill road that I know very well. If he went off into the trees, I wouldn't even know it - he was going so fast. Maybe I'm old or chicken, or both, but I don't want to ride that fast any more.I did keep my eyes open for him on the way home.
We lost 6 people in bike crashes this Memorial Day weekend in Portland. All but one were the biker's fault; all but one were crotch rockets. The lone other one was a 57-year-old on a 2007 HD (didn't say what model) who veered off the freeway into a guard rail. My guess is heart attack.
Ride well and ride safe!

178 rwhp? Now, that is some exaggeration. No stock 600cc production bike can even touch that and none of the stock top of the line bikes like the busa make that either. The stock bike with the most hp is a kawasaki at 160 rwhp. A hayabusa has 150 rwhp and neither of them is 380 lbs. Both of them are in the mid 500's. Sport bikes are impressive, but not that impressive.

The VRSCDX Night Rod Special if quick, but not the "quickest" of the cruiser type bikes.
Popular Mechanics recently did a test of a number of showroom stock 'cruiser type' bikes, and came up with the following results;
HD VRSCDX Night Rod Special ($16,495), 1130CC, 0 to 60 = 4.26 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 12.47 at 108 MPH.
Honda VTX1800F ($14,849), 1795CC, 0 to 60 = 4.45 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 12.90 at 102 MPH.
Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 Classic ($12,999), 2053CC, 0 to 60 = 4.98 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 13.30 at 100 MPH.
Suzuki Boulevard M109R ($12,599), 1783CC, 0 to 60 = 3.89 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 12.08 at 110 MPH.
Triumph Rocket III ($14,999), 2294CC, 0 to 60 = 3.66 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 11.99 at 111 MPH.
Victory Hammer S ($19,747), 1634CC, 0 to 60 = 4.53 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 13.17 at 99 MPH.
Yamaha Star Warrior ($12,549), 1670CC, 0 to 60 = 4.56 seconds, 1/4 mile times = 13.01 MPH.
