Default Sporty Air Cleaner Mod - $0

Not sure if anyone has posted something like this, but either way I figured I'd share it. I did a little mod with a stock 2006 Sportster air cleaner cover.

Essentially, I took off all the external air cleaner parts, and then mounted the insert from the cover back onto the cleaner itself. The only pieces I used other than the insert were the two metal spacers I found behind the cleaner cover when disassembling. Costs nothing, and I think it gives a way better look than stock.

...my apologies for the lack of photos

Welcome from NM. I think it looks good. Have you noticed any difference in how it runs with that mod good or bad?

Looks like you're on to something Dan. Bet it would look even better if you painted the raw steel behind the insert with some Plasti-Dip. It would be quick, simple and real cheap to do.

Welcome to the forum,
Enjoy!

I haven't taken it for a ride yet, still in hibernation mode. Once it warms up I'm gonna give it a test.

I was thinking the same thing about painting it. Black would look killer.

Looks good. Huge improvement over the OEM ham can. +1 on black too... I would have done that in a heartbeat, but my 87 used a different filter that wouldn't have worked. I went with the 4" hot rod filter mod. I love it because now you actually can see the motor..

Did same on my '05 XL1200C, back in the day. Worked well...had to adjust the carb a bit to allow for airflow change.
