Ok, well, it's been awhile, but I'm 'still' working on the OL's Iron.

What kind of bulb are you running in that headlight housing? Specifically... did you find an LED that fits?

Default Ok, I'll play

So here's how she sat on the showroom floor. 06' XL1200C.

got her home and snapped a few shots

first add on was a Burly sissy bar for my wife

Next up was a used drag specialties seat that I picked up for a song, and a moons low profile taillight

And then I got crazy with the cheeze wiz

preppin for the mods

tear down complete

had to transplant some wiring from an 07' to made the speedo/ indicator lights work with the relocation

coming together nicely

Done! (for now)

I was most pleased with how this split coil relo turned out. mounted the choke **** in the middle of the bracket for a clean look

and here she is in the sun

*** LIST ALL MODS DONE ***

12" Road 6 Customs holy roller bars
speedo relocation using an 07' XL low bracket/ clamp combo
2" DK tank lift
Pengel petcock
wire tuck
coil relocation using Dynatek split coil
thundervolt plug wires
customized Bikers Choice motor mount bracket
Bikers Choice Vulcan coil bracket
Kuryakyn Zombie grips
Kuryakyn Zombie Levers
HD chrome switch housings
HD chrome switch caps
Magnum black pearl brake, throttle, idle & clutch cables
Arlen Ness front turn signal relocation brackets
Custom Dynamics Ringz style front turn signal LED's
Burly sissy bar
Moons low profile tail light with integrated turn signals

*** LIST MODS YOU WISH YOU WOULD HAVE DONE OR REGRETS, ETC

I wish I had done the suspension work, but I blew my wad on all the other goodies. They are definitely next up on the list

Only regret is I wish I had spent just a little more time going through a pre flight check after the mods were complete. I forgot to tighten down the master cylinder cover and it flew off during my first post-mod test run. sent DOT 5 all over me and the bike. Had to stop traffic so no one would run over the cover in the road and recover it. It took three rides to get all the brake fluid blown out of the nooks and crannies. DOH!!

Its just the original HD (high dollar) Daymaker LED.
The housing is actually a 'Bates' style from Drag Specialties.

hth,

I noticed it was a "bates" style. I have a V-Twin branded one that I would like to use, but can't find an LED bulb that fits. They're all too long. Interesting that the daymaker fits. The "bates" style ring wasn't an issue? Any pictures? Maybe I'll grab one of the highly rated amazon knock offs and see if it'll fit...

The trim ring didn't give me any issues....

I don't think I'm doing too bad for a month of riding. This is my first bike and I plan to ride it until the wheels fall off. Even if I get a second bigger bike for touring eventually. I didn't testride anything. "Just sat on her and knew I had to have her!"

Then: Pulled from showroom for parts.
1/6/2017

Dropped off at my job.
1/13/2017

Mini-apes and...

...engine guard from dealer.

LED headlight added myself just last week.

Now: I have a 27 inch Slims Fab Farm sissy bar to install and a DK Outlaw spring seat on the way.
I'll be upgrading the front/back suspension ASAP. As for stage 1 exhaust/intake, I'm in no rush living in Cali but, I may sneak in a tuner soon. And maybe a tank lift when I decide 2.2 gallons isn't enough (not that it is now but). "Not much to some but hey! It is, what it is!"

"Edit" Forgot the short but proper list
Recent Mods:
-Mini-apes
-Engine guard
-Braided cables
-Daymaker LED headlight
Pending:
-Slims Fab sissy bar
-DK Custom Outlaw Bobber Style spring seat (to be received & tooled)
Near Future:
-Progressive front/back suspensions
-V&h tuner
-"anything else that comes to mind"
At 1000 mile service:
-Undecided 2 into 1 exhaust (like the Bassani concept)
-Undecided intake
-"anything else that comes to mind"
I'm just learning, taking notes and coming here for answers as I ride, so thanks a lot y'all!

Why Not, Right. So this pick shows how my sporty was while I put 40K miles on it. it is the obnoxious yellow one. I used it as a commuter, weekend rider, kid hauler, etc. It had been converted to 1200 (bored out) with progressive rear shocks and a 4 gal aftermarket axed tank mustang two up seat.
I know could I get any further away?? its the only pic I have from the old version.

Then tradgedy struck!! I went to Fire her up after a long deployment and her sitting for over a year. She immediatly blew a lifter (damn stock solid lifters!!) and promptly shredded a cam. So what to do? I tore her down to case halves and rebuilt her. andrews high lift cams, adjustable pushrods, hydrolic lifters, replaced crank, used HD 1200 cylinders with new high comp pistons. Rebuilt the heads, valve seals, new valves, rockers etc. freshened up the transmission, replaced clutch, clutch spring, primary chain. installed newer starter with selenoid push button start. Then moved on to aftermarket frame. customized to fit everything. round oil tank, mustang 3 gal ridged tank. low brow customs stingray rear fender. bikemaster ridged front fender. raked triple trees on an aftermarket wide glide front end. Twisted spoke HD rims, 21 front, 16 rear (I think they were off a softail) custom L.E.D. tail light with side mount plate. springer seat. tall sissy bar. weld on chain tensioner. Paughco upswept fishtail exhaust, running torque cones and two inch baffles. all work done by me and my brother. Every bolt, nut, pin, weld, screw, wiring including paint done by me or with his help. I'm sure I missed a few things.

1987 sportster total custom build by me.

another shot finished it early last november just in time to pickle it for the winter.

another pic

Here is another shot of it

last one

enjoy

Hah exactly what happened to me with my 48! I'm now looking to update from stock by adding a FireBrand 52 exhaust, FP3 and a new air intake. I'll post some pics when it's done. Also would like to have eventually some whitewall tires, they look so great on a 48. I have the olive drab tank.
