Default Rear Axle no grease

Who is going to pull the rear axle to see if its had adequate grease so its not a bit*h to remove when it is necessary to replace a tire or drive belt.

I hate to kick a sleeping dog so will wait till fall to check mine.

Tom

Unless my bike sat out in the rain alot, I wouldn't pull the axle before it needed it. I've pulled the wheel off of a pile of new bikes for the first time. None of them had any grease on the axle. Some of them came out fine.A few had to be pounded out. None sustained any damage from the pounding.

Sounds like a winter project to me, I can't see it getting too bad in one season.

When I removed mine a few weeks ago for tires, I was surprised at the small amount of greese on the axle. But it wasn't really very difficult to remove. It sure has a lot more greese now, than it did from the factory.

the first time i removed my rear wheel to put my chrome pulley cover on i had to beat the **** out of the rear axle with a rubber mallot..that didnt even work..then i wrapped the axle in a towell and beat the **** out of it with a regular hammer..it was like it was welded in..how can the moco send these bikes out with little to no grease on the rear axle? mine is kept inside a garage..it has seen rain a few times when i got caught in some showers..(uh oh should i have said that? value of bike just cut in half)..its amazing they are chincy on something as simple as some grease..but now after i sanded all the rust off of it and greased the **** out of it i dont need to beat the **** out of it to take my rear wheel off..and its been off a few times since then..

how can the moco send these bikes out with little to no grease on the rear axle?
They do it because their real profit is from selling accessories and "service". Most people don't put enough miles on their bike during the 2 year "warranty" to have this be a problem. Then after the (worthless) warranty is expired, they can rack up a huge repair bill.

I also suspect if a person did try to get this repaired under the "warranty" they would say, "that's a normal wear & tear item."

I pull both my wheels every spring and repack the bearings and grease the axles. Ialso check for any tire or wheel run out and trueing. Every 2 seasons i remove the swing arm and grease the bushings and bearings as well. Preventative maintenance goes a long way. Mark..
