Default 08 1200 Custom fuel filter

I'm replacing my fuel filter. In addition to the canister filter there is this stupid zip tied filter on the side of the fuel pump. The ties were rotted off and the filter was disintegrating all over the place :-(
Anybody know what that filter is for? I got the replacement for it from Drag Specialties along with the canister filter and o-ring, so I assume I can zip tie a new one on there, but what a stupid filter. Is it important or just something to rot and make a mess in the tank?

Wink

Have you referred to your service manual?! You can see what the stock internals of your gas tank are on line here. That extra filter doesn't sound right to me.

Thanks for the link, that shows the part. Apparently it is the strainer?, they are both listed as FUEL FILTER KIT W/ 10181, 10303, STRAINER & FILTER ELEMENT at the site you showed me above. It's actually like a tea-bag that has a couple holes that fit to bottom of fuel pump, then folds up the side of the fuel pump and tie wraps onto it. Very cheesy setup :-/

Interesting! Looks as if the strainer isn't illustrated. Certainly sounds an odd thing to do. I guess the strainer is for removing coarse particles and the filter fine particles, so it seems the MoCo decided they needed that extra protection.

Good to know about these "filters"!
