Default Bought new 883......first 100 miles...thoughts

After owning a suzuki sport bike that was a lemon for a year, I decided to buy a harley. I just got to 100 miles this evening on my new 883. A year ago I said I would never buy a Harley until I was older(didn't like them at all). Now , after 100 miles on the new 883, I will now tell people that I will never ride another bike that isn't a Harley. The bike is 10x more comfortable than sport bikes, has way more torque and handles loads better than my suzuki 500 sport bike. I love not getting blown around on the highway. The fuel injection in the 883 seems to work flawlessly even though I know you old schoolers want the carbs. Just thought I would let everyone know that looking into harleys over the last month, talking to riders, and now riding one, has been one of the best times of my life so far. The harley riders are real people, even at the dealerships. Sport bike riders just care who's bike is faster. Now I can actually enjoy the ride and the people. Buying the Harley was the best choice I could have made.

Color is vivid black if anyone was wondering. I liked the black best. Just want to add the sundowner seat, pass pegs , and sissy bar now. Maybe forward controls later on. I am enjoying it stock right now. Only complaint so far is the bike heat in traffic at 87 degrees outside today was horrible. Not the bikes fault though. Only real complaint is the seat needs replacing. Stock seat is a bit uncomfortable in my opinion. Sundowner should fix that right?

well the 90 degree temps may have something to do with me seat being uncomfortable as well I suppose.

The Sundowner seat is even more comfortable than it looks. It was a huge improvement for me. I hesitated for along time because I thought it might look too fat for a Sportster but Harley did a good job in the design.
As far as the heat concern, get the oil fill cap with temp gauge. You don't want the temp to go over 200 deg. in my opinion. If temps do rise alot, consider an oil cooler and switch to a synthetic oil to lower those temps. Mine averages about 175 deg. max. but I don't ride in the heavy traffic too often either. As always, not the gospel, just my .02

It wasn't horrible traffic. Just a few long red lights basically. Rush hour hasn't been too bad. I'm just used to the sport bike being a little cooler. I also haven't gotten a harley helmet yet so I am using my sportbike's full helmet which adds a ton of heat. Need to invest in a 1/2 helmet from harley I believe. I am going to switch to synthetic oil at the 1000 mile service and may buy one of the temp. oil sticks.

I love Harley for two reasons, the big sound and air cooled w/o radiator.
Sport bike riders just care who's bike is faster. Now I can actually enjoy the ride and the people.
Read my mind!
