What year is your bike? I can tell you why, the first one is for late model 04-07, crossover pipe is on the back joining 2 mufflers. Second one is for early model, the crossover pipe is in the front joining the two header pipes. Please choose the right one for yours.

Some slip on mufflers, like the Rineharts, don't use the crossover pipe. Black plastic plugs are supplied with them to plug up the holes to keep water out of the crossover pipe. However, there are some S/O Mufflers that have"ports" built in to them so you can still utilize the crossover. Just depends on the brand, but yes, you may lose some low end torque/power.

I recently changed the exhaust on my 1996 1200c from the stock pipes with Screaming Eagle slip ons to the HD 2 into 1 exhaust by Vance & Hines. What a difference! The bike pulls much harder and seems to have a broader range. Also have the Screaming Eagle air cleaner , I thought I might need to rejet the carb but the plugs look great and I'm really happy with the performance.
