Default Getting the Project 48 Ready for the Hot Bike Tour

Awhile back we bought a mostly stock, used Sportster 48 for a Project Bike.

The idea was to build out a few variations of it and use it as a muse to develop some new Sportster parts. Then once we had it built out, we would sell it and use the funds to get another project bike.

Well, by the time we finished with the first variation, Devin (the "D" in DK) fell in love with it and "had" to take it home.

So he's had it as a personal bike for about a year now, riding the **** out of it, just like a Sportsters' meant to be ridden!

Fast forward to today-

Both Devin and I are going on the Hot Bike Tour this September, the 5 day Rolling Rally is in the Smokies and surrounding areas.

We'll both be on Sportsters...the Project 48 and the DK Sporty.

Devin is doing a few things to the 48 before heading out east next month.

He's already installed a V-Coil Relo.

The other thing he is testing out on this trip is a pair of High Performance forks.

Out with the stock...

...new ones ready to go.

Getting close...

...almost ready to roll.

Adjustable on the fly...

...left fork for Compression, right for Rebound.

We should be putting these thru the wringer tomorrow.

Stay tuned here, I think he has a few other things he's going to be doing before the Tour.

Wow!

I went for a little putt today with the new forks on the 48. It is a bit mind-boggling how much better it rides!

It still has the stock rear shocks on it, which are near useless, it was amazing how much the front forks absorbed, almost 100% neutralizing the poor rear shocks.

I was told that you would not notice the poor rear shocks if the forks were operating well...did not believe it, still don't know how it works, but it does.

i got the same feeling when i got the progressive mono tube kit in mine
your kit kan do a lot more adjusting if you know how to it´s going to be better, but you need to read up on it. my mekanic that love hd springs and heavy oil like the mono tube set alot better the rebound was always abit slow with just springs and oil now super fast, mine was the first in denmark to have such a kit fitted
if you have it in april maybe i could try it for me self, i could give you some feed back compared to mono tube kit????
regards
Sören

The V-coil. Does the coil wire being fed from the back like that have any heat issues? And does it replace the old coil wire with a whole new one?

Zero heat issues. We have thousands of hours of testing in the heat of the summer (100+*) with no problems.

A Plug-n-Play coil wire is part of the V-Coil kit. It plugs into the existing factory coil wire. The new PnP coil wire is housed in a heat resistant sheath.
