Default Question for 72 owners, front wheel tire related.

Ive recently noticed that while riding if im taking a slight turn and i hit a piece of road that has been patched up or sealed my front wheel feels like its slipping/hydroplaning, any ideas? Ive only had the bike since last year and dont remember this problem before. Its pretty scary if im at higher speeds, feels like im gonna lose control. Tires are still good and have the right psi, everything is tight.

I'll probably catch hell from the purist for my answer but here it is. The stock tires are CRAP! They don't hold corners & slip on wet roads. One of the first things I did is swap out tires to Shinko's Now I can corner like a sport bike & don't slip on wet roads as bad.

I acquired my 72 back In the Spring of this year and it came equipped with a brand new set of HD/Dunlop tires.
Overall, I was reasonably satisfied with them…UNTIL…the temps creeped into the upper 80’s and more specifically, the 90’s.
The stock Dunlop’s absolutely suck on tar-snakes and HOT asphalt!
The warmer the weather, the less confidence I have that these tires will hold line and get me where I want to go.
Summer is starting to wind down and I really don’t feel like needlessly pissing money away so I will ride them out so to speak.
That being said, new tires can’t come soon enough.

You aren't the only one with that opinion. The skinny 21" on my 1200C and the fatter 19" on my 883 were wigglers on uneven roads and tar snakes - at any temperature, too. Both bikes could break the back end loose real easy on corners and I even broke the front end loose on the 883 once. Avons cured both. I've never ridden any other brand of tire with such poor handling. I'm not a fan of skinny tires, but have to admit the one on my 1200C rides just as good as the fatter ones on my other bikes.
