Default Hopin' to take the Coronado Trail this year

Arizona's old Highway 666 (I kid you not), also called "the devil's highway." They had to change it's name/number because people kept stealing the highway signs (666).

It's a biker's dream. Around 500 severe switchback turns up the south side of the mountains, until you crest at around 9000+ feet in Alpine, Arizona.

The last time I took it in 2005, I know I counted at least 100, 180 degree turns on the switchbacks. Took us 3 hours to go 60 miles at 20 to 25 mph, and that was down hill. This time if all goes well we'll be starting from the other side and riding up the switchbacks.

I hope we're able to do it this year; I can't wait. It will be our 'poor man's Sturgis'.

You can read about it here:

http://www.azcentral.com/travel/driv...ronado-CR.html

I hope to take plenty of pics and hopefully a video up the mountain as well, if I can figure a way to securelystrap my video camera on the front of my bike. The last time I was there I saw deer and a large herd of bighorn sheep.

Hope you all have a fun summer of runs and rallies yourselves.

I've done it both ways. One time going up, and one time going down. It is a great ride either way. Look for deer, elk, wild turkeys, etc.

Here are a couple of pics.

Cool. I hope to be able to stay somewhere up near Hannagan's Meadow for a couple of days of fishing and R&R, when we go.

Very nice, it reminds me of my favorite stretch of black top, Highway 12 in Utah..

Nice.

Bikes are about perfect for the more remote highways; let the cages take the Interstates.

Someday I'd like to be able to cruise all over the country's backroads on a hog.

That 180 reminds me so much of our trip in 2005. And there are about 100 of those type of turns, too.

Dang, I can hardly wait.

That looks beautiful. My parents lived in Albuquerque New Mexico for a little while and i loved visiting them. Just something about the desert areasI love. I wish I could move back to the southwest. []
