Default 883 to 1200 conversion

My wife has a 06 883L, were getting ready to convert it to a 1200, and went to the dealer saturday to get some prices. They told me all I need to do is change the jugs and pistons. The bike is used for in town and rides ranging from 50 miles to 300, no cross country or racing, no need for high performance.

Yep that's all I had done to mine and the difference was pretty big. I used the 1250 kit from NRHS though.

get some heads to match. You can use the 883 heads but why not upgrade while they are off.

Yea, I wanted to do something to my heads but I didn't have the cash at the time. I can always do it later but it still runs pretty damn strong as it is.

Ericm that is the best looking 883R I've ever seen.

I have been pondering doing the conversion on my own 883 but the more I ride it the more I think it has plenty of power as it is. We do some two up riding, wifey and me, and enjoy it.
If you do the conversion and low to midrange power is what you are after the stock heads are fine. In fact some say because of the flow characteristics the 883's are better for low and mids.
Again, I have decided to just leave mine as is and enjoy it that way.

Yea I didn't really need the power, as the 883 was plenty, but I just wanted a little more fun out of it. Nothing wrong with an 883 though.

I did the conversion because the 883 seemed a little sluggish when getting up hill when me and the fiance ride. I agree the 883 has decent power but you can't argue with a 23 hp and torque gain with the upgrade.

Thank you Pig for the nice words.

Also, (if I can chime in) what's the cost of dealer vs NHRS and independent mechanis, heads upgrade vs letting the 883 heads stay on?
