Default Ironhead Sportster vin help

I picked up a sportster frame today and Was told it was a 1973. The vin on the neck is vt512026xlf 102... I want to know if it is a genuine frame and what's the vt mean? Also is it a 73?

I am far from an expert on this but everything I can find leads me to believe that one of a few options are possible.. Either the number that you gave is some number other than a VIN, it is a partial VIN (even this doesn't seem too possible for that year range), or the frame isn't a HD frame (this one is my bet).

VIN's have 17 digits, if anything that's the 'serial number'. H-D only has electronic vehicle/sale/warranty/registration available for bikes from 1987 and up, basic info from 1981 and up...after they went to 17 digits...

post a pic of the frame as well should be fairly easy to ID it if it's a stock frame or not

Highly doubt it.. From what I read last night about it, the only VIN that counts is what is stamped on the frame..

I agree, post a photo of the frame and of the number that you are giving. Somebody on here will be able to tell you quickly if it's a HD frame or not..
