Default Install time for a 1250 kit

I've been having a hard time deciding when to get a 1250 kit for my bike and I am considering getting one rather soon. I don't want to waste a good weekend of riding but lately its been raining like crazy here and I feel like another weekend of working on the bike won't hurt too bad. Anyway, I was wondering how long it took you guys to install a 1250 kit on your bike? I'm only doing the basic kit from hammer performance but I'm also planning on doing the bronze oil gear just to be safe. I thought I saw someone say it took them 10 hours or so. Does this sound about right? Just trying to figure out if I'll be able to do this within a weekend.

Setting the squish took some time, otherwise it was one day job. I didn't do the 1250, just replaced the heads, but the job was practically same.

you are the main determinant of the install time. i'd go as slow as possible.

lonnie seemed to fly through it:

there are several threads here walking you through it. one really good one with tons of pictures and added cam install. you have to dig for it though

Definitely take your time. somewhere in the range of 8-12 hours should get you there though.

LOL, yea, that was fast! I promise though, the older I get, the more I just enjoy taking my time. I spread mine out over a few days but I did a bunch of other things as well. I took my time because I really enjoy just working on the bike almost as much as I do riding it. I would take all the time you need to do it correctly. I wouldn't go into that gear box without doing some cam work for sure! Perfect opportunity. Hammer can fix you up.

Thanks guys for the help. I'll probably do it over the course of 3 days so I don't have to rush but it definitely helps knowing approximately how long it takes. I never asked hammer performance about cams but will there be any improvement without head work? Perhaps I will shoot them an email and see what advice they give me.

Oops, yep, I see that you are wanting to keep it basic. I just got all excited I think. I kept it mostly basic as well. Absolutely love it. You will need some clutch work too I think? You guys and your new fangled bikes I don't know. I was pretty sure the newer sporty's 04' and on needed the clutch spring kit. Hammer has all that stuff too. My '96 still had a man's clutch.

Let us know how it goes man! Never enough 1250 conversion threads for me.

Yeah I made sure to have them include the clutch and clutch tool in the quote they gave me. I'm doing the basic because I figured it's the best bang for the buck.
