Hey guys. What's up with my exhaust nuts coming loose. I re-torqued twice now. The shop manual says 96-120 in-lbs. I've been torqueing them to 100 in-lbs. Should I go all the way to 120 in-lbs. I'm afraid I'm going to snap the stud or strip it if I go much higher. I'm not getting any leaks.

Thats a good question.. Did you reuse the factory nuts or get new ones?? I haven't checked mine since I installed my pipes but I need to.. They don't appear to have come loose at all. I got new nuts with my James exhaust gaskets and I read that they are suppose to not come loose as easily. They are a deeper nut (if that makes a difference).

Yeah, if your gaskets came with new nuts, install them or get some new ones. I have rode a couple hundred miles on mine and they look to be good still, but I do have to get out the torque wrench.

Just talked to the dealer here about my exhaust nuts coming loose after each ride. They said it shouldn't matter if you use the same nuts. They seem to think there might be a problem with the studs, easily replaced. Also told them about the high pitch winning, ringing noise I'm getting from the rear jug. They think that may be the pip vibrating at the port when it's coming loose. I do get a little smoke from that exhaust port. I'm gonna leave it with them this evening and let them figure it out. Wish I let them do the install in the first place now. OH, I also told them about the exhaust being loose in the first place on the stock pipes.
