I can understand why he doesn't ride it, especially since he had it dumped in his lap. Different people just like different things. If I won a set of golf clubs in a contest someone entered me in, I would be in the same situation and my golfing buddies would be scratching their heads.
Exactly! People have given me things I didn't want and they lay around for a while and then I either give them away or sell them. I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone wants to ride a motorcycle. His business.

Out of all the posts, I agree with dynageezer the the most. He is saying different strokes for different folks. At least he's does ride it, even though he maybe hurting the motor. But lets remember, it is his motor...... Ride Safe and Often....BearC.Paw.........

Is he a bike collector? If he is, that's fine.
I ride as much as I can except rain, if I am lucky, I have 7 months riding in a year.
Go for it!

He sounds, perhaps, as if he is a nervous rider and is intimidated by you and your obvious impatience. Leave him be. He may never be an avid rider...who knows...let him discover his like or dislike for biking on his own.Added pressure from you may only thwart his efforts.

It could be that, but he has only gone about 50 milesevery year. I bought the sundowner seat for mine and did 9,000 miles very comfortable miles last year alone. Some on here do 20,000 miles a year on a sportster.

Think about this..."BIKER" is not something you teach. I would bet every one of us yearned for a bike looooonng before we actually got one.....it's in the blood, some just don't have it.

...(his wife randomly entered on a whim)...
Here's the problem. His wife entered the contest, not him. Regardless, it's his bike and he can choose to ride it how he likes. Sounds like he's just not comfortable riding in a lot of traffic, but still enjoys the occassional ride. You should just show up Sunday morning to show your support and then tell him that you won't give him grief about it again. There's no reason to lose a friend over it.

If you're that concerned about his not using the bike, make him an offer and buy it from him. He, apparently, didn't want it in the first place. In the end, it's his property to do with as he wishes. If he wants to drag it out into the driveway and set fire to it and burn it to the ground, it's his business, not yours. Leave him alone and keep a friend.
