Bought a 2005 xl12000c in 2013 that had around 17000 miles and since then I never had anything major happening to it, other than replacing two exhaust's bolts with ones made for plane engine because it was loosing up after a couple of miles. Other than that I am pretty satisfied and most of the money I spend on it was for customisation which is why you choose Harley!

👍 I had a red one to. And my brother had a blue one it was a nice bike.
dem lil'jugs!
Was a great bike and i still regret selling it. no problems out of it that i didn't cause (or have to repair due to the PO dropping/crashing the bike and not disclosing it). Shaft drive is incredibly reliable. oddly, there are honda idiots that convert to belt/chain(some honda cruisers are chain stock) for looks. insane.
again. if you are worried sell the sporty now before you add anymore miles and get a metric. you'll have more than enough from the sale to cover a metric and then some, hell maybe 2 or 3 w/ a few years of insurance if you shop right. i'd go ride one first though. there is a distinct difference in overall feel.[/QUOTE]

I have had five Sportsters over the years. 03 883R, 09 XR1200, 11 XL1200L, 14 XL1200T , 16 Roadster and their cousin the 09 XB12XT Buell. with a combined 60K miles on them. I still have all of them except the 11 XL1200L as I traded it for the 14 XL1200T.
Never a single repair other than wear items such as batteries, plugs and tires. Not a single bulb, cable, fuse, bearing or other component. I would say that they are bullet proof from my experience. They have taken me over much of the North American Continent and back without fail.
I do my own services and yes ride them like an old man (77).

My Wife's 04 1200 Custom, (which I bought her in 2008) has only had problems with the front motor mounts needing to be tightened down and the rear motor mounts replaced. The right forward control mounting bolt broke off and left the front peg hanging loose. Some bigass zip ties got us home, then I replaced the bolt. She didn't need the LED headlight, but she got it anyway. As for my 1977 XLH 1000, well, I can lift the front wheel rolling in 1st gear. Gotta really push the Old Guy, but I can keep up with her Damn Evo 1200. Maybe you need to get a little cheese for you whine.
