Default Not liking 3rd gear

Sometimes under medium to hard acceleration my sportster dose not want to go into 3rd gear. I don't hear any grinding noise but you have to pull the clutch back in and wait a sec then shift again and it will go in is this something to worry about or is it a common issue with older sportsters? It has new primary oil I'm using redline Vtwin primary oil I think there is around 19k on the bike

What year bike are you asking about? Have you done a complete clutch adjustment, cable and adjustment screw together? Primary chain adjusted properly?

Just have to eliminate stuff one by one. Hopefully there is not an issue with tranny, they are pretty well built.

It's a 96. I was told it has a new primary chain on it. No I have not tried to adjust anything yet.I was kinda wondering if the iusse would be do to the fact that it was some pretty tall apes on it and still have a stock clutch cable when I did the primary oil change the chain didn't seem super tight or loss

First thing I would do is a clutch adjustment. Pretty simple if you follow the service manual or the video on youtube.
