Default My Clutch Is Maladjusted. Did I Raise It Wrong?

My 2007 1200C's clutch will not stay adjusted.

It has 16k miles and I've adjusted it several times. When I properly readjust it (again) it gets out of adjustment by 2 FULL turns! It stays in gear, however, one issue is it very difficult to find neutral when at idle. Also the clutch seems to be slipping under heavy throttle and higher revs.

Do I need a new clutch pack? I don't want to buy that damn $80 compression tool that I'll likely use only once.

Any diagnosis would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't beat yourself up over your maladjusted clutch. There are no guarantees in life & you never know what's in the cards.
I'd say if you have a little play at the lever....oh hell, I've never had this issue with any of my clutches, so I can't give any useful advise. Unless it has been punished or abused over the years, it should not need to be replaced. I've had 3 Sportsters with more miles, and the clutches were fine. Suppose adjust it like the factory manual says and go from there.

Are you having to readjust at the handlebars. Or behind the derby cover.

Derby cover. When I adjusted the clutch I have to readjust the clutch cable too.

Is the keeper worn or missing. There should be a keeper that prevents the adjustment from moving.

The hexagonal keeper with the spring attached is there.

If you decide to splurge $80 on the compression tool, it can always be re- sold on the forum classifieds, E Bay, or Craigslist. Probably recoup half the cost of the tool.

Good luck fixing the problem.

Yeah a clutch that doesnt stay adjusted means its time for a new one. Do it soon or she will let loose and youll be replacing more than a clutch.

I guess as long as your wallet can survive ,a clutch job ain't nothing but a Saturday evening with a friend or two and case of frosty cold American beers. Can't hurt your bike. Better new then old. Etc...
