Default Relocate Coil to Battery compartment?

Hello!

I needed a new battery. Got the Battery Tender lithium ion and its TINY. Works great so far. I'm in FL so still riding season. Anyway, it comes with foam blocks you use to fit it in the usual battery spot. That got me thinking...

Would a coil relocation in there be ill advised? Thinking it would fit, and I like the idea of hiding it and doing a wire tuck. Would it be too hot for it in there? Any other concerns?

Thanks!

I would think you'd want air flow over the coil. Especially in hotter climates.

Interesting idea. How hot does the coil get? How about the battery?

I've always wondered how hot the coil runs, and also the voltage regulator. Does the coil really need airflow to function? Did not see that on older cars, or newer ones either.

I just wonder about possible paint application. You know, paint the coil, or the VR some other color? The VR has fins, so cooling is obviously an issue.

My 1991 has the big coil, and external battery. With a newer bike perhaps it's possible!

Good question.

Just a thought....
Battery fumes and a spark.
Awfully long spark plug wire front jug to battery box.

Good luck...always good to be constantly modding.

Lithium batteries don't vent hydrogen gas like lead/acid batteries.

I haven't measured, but just eyeballing it, I don't think the plug wire to front jug would need to be much (if any) longer than the one currently running to the rear in stock form. Might even be able to use front for back and vice versa utilizing the stock wires.

The heat is the biggest concern I think, and likely why I will not attempt. The Accel Super Stealth might be an option, but it's costly.

thats a pretty long plug wire. that would have to drop down from under the tank and look wired anyway. I have a shori Lithium battery. mine was the same size as the stock battery just 3 Lbs lighter!

My Shorai saved 10 pounds over my stock battery in same dimensions.

I would use this for coil and put something else in your battery compartment. Maybe a holder for registration and stuff?

+1 - The coil needs air flow for cooling. Without it, expect premature coil failure, especially in warmer climates.
