Default bike comparison

Just recently got back from a vacation in Florida. Rented a dyna wide glide custom for 24 hours while in Daytona. Here's a few observations. Fuel injection is great......... 6 speed transmission is ok. I just did'nt use all of the gears all of the time. Did like the smoother down shifts........... Suspension was really smooth. Boringly smooth............... Plenty of get up and go. 96ci. engines have plenty of power............Heavy but, not overpowering. The one I rented was a lower seated model. I was able to enjoy theless top heavy feeling that everyone talks about that we have on our sportsters.............I especially liked the larger gas tank capacity since I have the smaller version on my sporty...........All and all, I wouldn't hesitate to consider purchasing one, should I get the inclination to do so.The price to rent for the 24 hours was about 200 dollars. That was with all the insurance, etc.. It was a favorable experience. I would do it again.

How was the turning on tight corners and breaking as compared to the sportsters?

Isaw no difference in braking. The bike had forward controls and floor boards so this was new to me. It stopped. That was the important thing for me. Did'nt have any emergency stops to make (thank goodness). Cornering was slightly better than I had expected. The center of gravity was somewhat less than the sportster, in my opinion. Only slightly though.

I was looking at street bobs but I coulnt justify spending twice as much as a sporty so I went with a 1200R my third sporty and love it.

The experts (whoever they are) point to the Dyna as the standard "best" model Harley makes. Having never ridden one, I appreciate your observations. Thanks.

Interesting. I'm going to Arizona in October and plan on renting while I'm there.

Did the glide feel a lot heavier and bigger than your Sportster? I always wondered how it and say a Fat Boy would feel compared. I bet the Sportster has crisper and more precise handling.

The real question...should you decide to get a DWG, will you trade the Sportster or keep it?

I heard those wide glide front end triple trees flex a bit while cornering, is that true? Just curious

In an attempt to answer your questions: Testflyer, ......Yes the dyna felt a little heaver than the sportster but, it did not seem to be overwhelming or, become a focus of my attention. I got used to its balance very quickly and it became a non-issue. The throttle response was very crisp. One time I had to get on it as I entered into traffic on the way to Tifton, Florida, on the highway. It roared. Damn fast in my opinion. ...........Bensonjv, ............I'm not planning on a change in bikes anytime soon. If I were to buy one, I have only enough room for one bike, so I would probably be trading the sportster in but, that is not in any near future for me at this writing. ..............128auto,...........I'm not sure what you mean by flexing on the triple tree. I noticed no problems in the suspension at all. It was a very smooth, comfortable riding machine. In cornering, it stayed right with me through the turn. I was concerned about dragging the floorboards that it came with more than anything else. I will tell you this, I found that I missed my windshield more than I would have ever thought with this rental.
