Default Changing oil on my 2015 Iron 883

I have the 5000 mile mark coming up soon on my sportster and I def don't wanna go to the dealer for maintenance because I know how expensive it can get. Does anyone have any advise on what I must service for the 5000 mile service? I wanted to change the oil on my bike this weekend. Can anyone suggest the type of oil and oil filter I should buy please?

If you plan to keep your bike for a long time I recommend getting a service manual. Ive gotten so much use out of mine I couldn't imagine what I would have missed or done wrong with out it.

Simply follow the maintenance schedule listed in your owners manual. That's what I do.

As for which oil..... if you are unsure what to use just use HD oil and fluids as listed in your owners manual. Other than that I won't say. Oil is like asking a personal question. Everyone has their own answer.

Good luck

Just follow the manual.
FWIW The critical fasteners list. Check all those bolts and others while inspecting the bike for anything appearing out of the ordinary. Make sure the battery and cables are secure. Inspect the fuse box and fuses. Also I'd buy some Blue Loctite and a Torque Wrench.
Have fun.

mobile 1 vtwin 20w-50 synth (3 qrts) and k&n filters are used by tons of folks. i use hd 20w-50 synth and filters, cost the same and i'm in the dealer at least once a week buying crap. why waste time trying to sock it to the man to save $3?

consider an hd service manual, will save you $1000s

Ditto on getting a service manual...it's invaluable if you plan to do your own mods/maintenance.

Something to think about....warranty. If you bought the bike from the dealer, I suggest you inquire with them if you would void warranty on things you fuss with when doing your own maintenance. I still have warranty but I do my own maintenance unless it involves major components (engine/trans) or maintenance involving areas affecting safety i.e. brakes, clutch, throttle.
