Default Opinions on where to drill

for these drag bars, I would like to drill on the sides of the risers (2nd picture.) Something tells me that this will not be structurally sound? Should I drill two holes on the main horizontal bar in between the risers instead like the first picture?

Location of the holes would probably depend on what and where you are mounting. Those are two very different locations. The more common location is on the underside of the handlebars. You can buy handlebars pre-drilled for internal wiring.

What are the holes for? If it's for wiring, the risers might not have holes into the bars.

If you want to fit internal wiring you really should buy pre-drilled bars. One reason is simply ensuring that there are no sharp internal edges that will damage your wires, as they are pulled through. It is not easy to remove sharp edges where you can't see them, like the inner edge of the holes you drill.

It is for internal wiring. I bought these bars off ebay with dimples. I am thinking they were for a metric bike. I had to use fine thread 1/2 bolts instead of the coarse thread. The dimples were just not big enough to mount the mirrors next to the controls. It is really a lot of drilling to hide 6" of wiring, but I didn't see another way without buying new bars. I would like to wires to come out of the risers since these are pullback bars, but fear that would make it structurally weak?

Some pre-drilled bars are great, but a lot of pre-drilled bars are half-*** and have sharp edges.

Pre-drilled double t drag bars have a hole in each riser near the bottom.

If you drill the exit holes in the drag bar, your going to defeat half the purpose of having internal wiring. The wires will be dangling in between the risers.
