Default Front brake light switch sticking on 88 sportster

88 Sportster, brake light stays on when using the front brake. It will shut off after squeezing and releasing a few times. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the switch could use lubrication. Perhaps remove the lever and apply some wd-40 to the switch.

Sounds like either the return spring in the front master is getting weak, the master cylinder is a bit gunked up and needs cleaned and lubed, or the Pistons in the caliper have some baked on brake dust, and need cleaned, or even possibly you hAve a bit of moisture or a bit of air or both in the lines, and you just need to bleed the brake.. You can do most of that for damn near free, except rebuild the master cylinder, and even that only takes 20 bucks or so, if needed.

My Buell does much the same and is 20 years younger! It's not uncommon as that switch, on all bike brands, is very small and vulnerable to the elements. WD40 may well help to release the switch and improve it's action. If that is successful then squirt some dialectric grease into it, to make it more weather/damp resistant. If not then be prepared to remove and replace it. I have a new one in stock for my Buell, for when my patience runs out!

I had the one on my soft ail start sticking and the lubrication didn't work for long. Finally got a new one. When I removed the old one I found the dust shield was broken. Go ahead and replace it as it is not hard. Takes about an hour. It is a good time to lube throttle cables also.

Turned out to be a simple fix. One of the screws on the throttle assembly came loose, I pushed it in tight up against the brake assembly, tightened it up and it's good as new.
