Sounds like either the return spring in the front master is getting weak, the master cylinder is a bit gunked up and needs cleaned and lubed, or the Pistons in the caliper have some baked on brake dust, and need cleaned, or even possibly you hAve a bit of moisture or a bit of air or both in the lines, and you just need to bleed the brake.. You can do most of that for damn near free, except rebuild the master cylinder, and even that only takes 20 bucks or so, if needed.

My Buell does much the same and is 20 years younger! It's not uncommon as that switch, on all bike brands, is very small and vulnerable to the elements. WD40 may well help to release the switch and improve it's action. If that is successful then squirt some dialectric grease into it, to make it more weather/damp resistant. If not then be prepared to remove and replace it. I have a new one in stock for my Buell, for when my patience runs out!
