Harley Davidson's 1200 kit
#22
We have to be careful when studying these SE kits, as I have just discovered! The best thing to do is to download a 2016 SE catalogue. There is a Stage 4 kit for 1200 Sporties, not 883s, although I suspect it can be adapted by buying 1200 cylinders. Then there is a Pro Stage 4 kit, also for 1200s, which comes with all the goodies!
The interesting kit, IMHO, is the Pro Stage 2 kit, which converts an 883 to 1200, comes with cylinders and 10:1 pistons, cams, clutch spring, gaskets etc and tuner: #29836-10. H-D don't make any claims for it's performance, but I would expect it to be comparable with a 1250 kit. "the matching 10:1 high-compression pistons are engineered to maximize the performance with the Original Equipment cylinder heads", which is what the 1250 kit makers achieve.

It will be well worth researching that price to be very sure of what they mean and include! As I posted above, my reading of the two different Stage 4 kits is that they are for 1200s, not an 883. At this point in your dreams it would be worth visiting your dealer and talking to a real human, face to face. Don't get into too fast a spin, if you are tempted - think calm thoughts.....

Yeah I have the new catalogue and it says you can install it but would need to purchase 1200 cylinders. It includes everything except air cleaner and tuning. Unfortunately, I feel it might be out of my price range. I will definitely be talking to a lot of people in the next few days and I'm not planning on making a decision until I have all my options laid out. Again, I appreciate all the advise so far!

Use the SE kit, as suggested earlier. It comes with a tuner which the dealer will be able to use and set your bike up properly. If you can get a decent discount from your dealer you'll have a pretty decent bike at a good price! Most of the other kits, such as the 1250s, cost more than the headline price, as they don't include a tuner.
It is worth spending some time costing out the options - I feel a spreadsheet coming on! The straight 1200 kit is the last thing I personally would buy, as it is expensive and simply gives you a bone stock 1200. On the other hand the SE kit is quite another thing, giving a serious boost in performance, not only above your 883 but over a 1200 too.

Yes you have to get the race kits for the tuner. Not the street kits. And the tuner is the pro tuner, not the limited ability street tuner.

i bought the harley kit for $600.00 at Riverside harley and did the install myself. even the 1200 kit will make your bike scream.the gearing is all wrong, i mean you'll do 0 - 60 in the 3 sec. range. if i wanted to go that fast i'd buy rice. 883 gearing gives you a pretty low top end speed which you can hit in a big a## hurry. you can do what you want but i sold mine and bought a 1200L. way happier with it.
