2006 Sportster Transmission
I have a friend with an 06, and he was told a shifter fork is bent. He was told he has to split the cases to have it fixed.
It is stuck in 3rd gear after he dropped it.
My question, for those in the know:
What is involved in pulling the gear set? Is it a day project, or more tying up my lift for a week long ordeal.
He doesn't have a service manual, and I'm not buying one unless I do the work, and I want to know what is involved before committing to do it for him...
Going to ask the same in the trans forum.
TIA!!

I appreciate that. I don't work fast, but I'm pretty meticulous.
And I don't mind having it on my lift for a week... just looking to know more of what I may be getting in to.
I'm unemployed, thanks to Saudi Arabia and our fearless leader signing crap deals with Iran...
So an extra nickel or two here or there sure helps.

Saudi - Iran - Middle East - I don't believe anything other than crap can come out of that corner of the World, no matter how hard anyone in the West tries!
On more interesting things, that we can relate to easily, it would be worth diagnosing that Sporty problem, if possible, before stripping the engine, to be as sure as possible that the selector is indeed damaged. That's a lot of work to find that something else is the problem!
Best of luck sorting out the bike and your own future.

Yes, you must remove the engine, pistons, split the case, remove all, reassemble, get the book, not real difficult, 1/2 " drive mostly, 3/4" for some main & primary drive nuts. You may need more tools access to metal bar stock, but all tolls should be hand tools, U dont need no air guns N crap like that for Sporties. Good torque wrench and go for it.
