RE: What to look for on used Sportster
I would have no idea what value of a 10 year old sporty would be, but I recently picked a brand new '06 883 Custom from the stealer for $7,800 (plus tax/license).
I would think you should be able to get something newer for same $$$.
Good luck! Ride safe!

All I'm saying is I am surprise how much people are trying to sell them for used. In my case someone is selling an 1997 (1200cc) for $4000, which is the cheapest I found for that year and newer here in California.
If anyone can find that year or newer for equal or less money let me know. (in California) I have found people selling 1987 (20 years old) for $3500.

I hope we can a 2000 for about $4000. We are still looking the guy selling backed out of the sale just now, said he had a change of heart selling his dads bike. OK
If anyone finds a good deal on a 1200cc Sportster in Northern California around $4000.... Please let know. Thanks

Hey Guys Thanks for all your help in finding a Sportster
Just picked up a 1998 Sportster XLH 883. Great clean condition, 6000 miles for only $3600. Pick it up in San Francisco Saturday morning. For here in California that is dirt cheap. This thing rides great and handles very nicely. Could use a little more power and a lower profile compared to my FLSTF.
Thanks. I'll be here in the Sportster fourm now too.

"I noticed some Sportster have forward controls and others have mid-shifters. Is this an option. If it has mid can it be converted to forward?"
Yes, this was an option.
And yes, you can change it to a forward controll setup. It just takes cash.
I have an '01 Sporty 1200 XLH w/ mid controls. I added highway pegs for streteched out highway running. But I like the mid controlls we going through the twisties.

The most important thing you can look for in a Used Sportster is my email address or phone # at the bottom of the ad.

First mod would be a new solo seat and narrow drag bars.
