went to the dealer and picked 70% of the parts order. pistions back-ordered

 • 575 cams
 • cometic base gaskets
 • std base gaskets
 • tappet/lifter gaskets
 • high tensile studs
 • BBs, yes BBs
 • 2 X 3/8-16 nuts and 1 3/8 washer

mega head gasket. may not use. need to decide between this and the .030 cometic mls

following this, along with the manual, for the stud removal/install:

grabbed these goods to

tested the bb to see if it would hold up to the stud torque

held up ok. 10-20 ft/lbs (120-240 in/lbs) isn't much. i think this will work. could be wrong

guess hd doesn't really care about packing anymore. 536 vs 575

536 course vs 575 fine. no need to pull the pinion gear to swap it for the course one included with the older 536 set. assuming the arrow shapes are buell timing marks and the 0 are XL timing

clearly printed SE-[X]E numbers on the cams vs the 536 cams... pretty sure i made the right call by skipping those.

tested the lobes for clearance... 4 no issues

3 no issues

1 no issues

2... no idea assumde cool, put in varios positions with no contact other than race. didn't spin it though.

test fit all cams in timed positions. i will assembly lube and button it up tomorrow after replacing the lifters

stud said it ain't moving. hamfist wanted to help.... no. stopped and let it be before i broke something or destroyed the case.

moved on to the lifter/tappets (lifters). drained the s&s juices and cleaned them as advised

sat them in oil for a while

dug out the old lifters

blah

blah

looks like the s&s replacements but, the roller was rough... in terms of the roller spin. the s&s rollers were super smooth and fast in spin.

put in the new lifters

replaced lifter retainer gaskets

slapped it all back together. 80-110 in/lbs on all 5 of the screws.

moved on to the cams and cover. removed and lubed the cams, pinion, oil gears, and bushings. put the cams back in...

reconnected the oil line, lubed the cover bushings, placed the gasket, and pressed the chrome cover into place and held it with old screws... enough for one day

A good days work.
Good luck on the cylinder/head studs. I've heard those things can be a bitch. I have no tips or tricks to offer, but nice job on the hose.

I thought the studs stayed in the case. Whats up with that one then? (pardon my ignorance)
