Default 2009 Sportster 1200 Low for First Bike

A local dealer has 2009 Sportster 1200 Low that appears to be in great condition. It has 3000 miles on it. I am 50 years old, 6 foot 2, 190 pounds and looking for my first bike. Do you think this is a good choice? He is asking 5k, which appears to be a pretty good deal. Do you think that is fair? Or should I offer $4500. Thanks for any and all opinions.

Dave

Welcome and offer the $4500. He accepts or counters. Good luck.

Aggressive choice for 1st bike!
Take the safety course & spend lots of time in a quite parking lot getting use to it.
Love my Sportster! I'd just say take it easy growing into it.

No...first you'll look like an elephant humping a turtle on that bike and second is the fact of it being your 1st ever m/c. Start on a $1K clunker...get your bike legs wet & then move onto your dream ride...IMHO.

It worked out great for me. I agree the bike may be a little small for you but if your comfortable on the bike then go for it. Maybe look into forward controls.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. I assume you haven't been walking everywhere until now, so you have developed a driving sense and judgement! Go ahead if it works out for you. You will quite likely find it a bit low, however that is a criticism of most Sportsters. We can help you get over that if you want, with longer rear shocks, better padded seat, simple stuff to do.

Welcome to the forum. A sportster is a great first bike and last..lol. It was my first bike and do not intend to go large. Your choice should be based on your comfort zone and the type of riding you will be doing. I would offer lower than $4,500 perhaps $4,000 and have him counter...they won't kick you out the door. I offered a $$ I was willing to pay (low-balling of course) with my sad story and they worked with me to an acceptable price...about $3,000 less than their sticker price, but my bike had a lot more mileage than your bike. Good luck.

@Iceman: Well, I definitely don't want to provide that visual, lol. Thanks for your feedback.
