Exhaust mightmare
Okay I'm going to try to make this as painless as possible. Keep in mind it's gonna hurt like hell. Here goes.1. Ordered new exhaust. 2. Remove factory exhaust breaking two studs off at head. 3. Easy out one of them no problems. 4. Break easy out in stud hole. 5. Buddy is drilling out the other stud and easy out crumbles about half of threads in head. My question is this. Is it possible, not is it recommended, but is there enough metal there to redrill and tap exhaust studs 180 degrees from original studs? I've already found new heads on eBay for $100 so I'm willing to take a chance. I just don't see a welder being able to fill that hole so close to the edge. It's the bottom hole front cylinder by the way. It looks like it could be done to me. Most say no, some say maybe, nobody said yes. Is there enough meat to drill and retap 180 degrees from original studs? That is the question

Not sure what you mean 180 degrees apart, since the studs are directly in line (180 degrees) with each other. Do you mean 90 degrees? Either way, I have not read of anyone trying to fix it that way.
Always soak those studs for several days prior to trying to remove the nuts. Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, etc. Soak them many times before trying to remove.

Some body shops may have the tool for nutserts. I've repaired many aluminum boat motors with them and a bit of JB Weld. Works sort of like a rivet.

It will cost about as much to get it welded & recapped at the machine shop as those heads you found. Unless you got a buddy at machine shop it will be about $80-$100 minimum charge w/o any warranty on that type of repair. Just buy the heads & be done with it. Not worth the headache to try & bandage it then replace heads any way. Learned this being a tech many years & the quick fix cheap fix usually doesn't last. Not saying it never does, but odds are against you.

also, you know your heads are good (except the f'ed up hole) the ones you buy off of ebay you don't know anything about...they may need guides, seals valves ..hell who knows... you are taking a fairly big chance with used heads...
