Hey. I have a chance of buying a nice looking 79 Sportster. 5000 miles since rebuilt engine, but he says the front shocks are very stiff (I wonder if it could be low oil in the front end) and he also says the starter clicks (either a low battery or a bad starter). Any ways this stuff to me is minimal with such a great price, but I wonder if there are any 79 owners or anyone with experiance good or bad with Iron heads?

the only thing to consider the79 was a bastard year, in other words stuff from other years are not likely to interchange. otherwise if its a great deal buy it and have a blast!! good luck

 

Try lighter fork oil in the front tubes. And as Mike sed, the '79s are different. Some things are peculiar to that year only, so bear that in mind. That electrical problem could be anything from a bad starter switch, bad starter relay, bad starter solenoid, bad starter motor brushes and/or commutator.

 

hey.. if you get it and ya'll just don't get along - i'm pretty sure i could find something to do with it for a good deal.... starting to look for an Ironhead to make mine - anyone know of an old Ironhead 900 sittin around?
