Default Sportster windshield

Just bought a 2002 883; my first Harley (former Honda owner) and it's nice.

Has original windshield (HD 14688) and the guy I bought the bike from is a short guy and I'm 6'3". I need a taller windshield as there is far too much buffeting at higher speeds. Is there a taller windshield that I can buy to fit the original supports? Present windshield is 18" over light opening. Need to get it 3 or 4 inches higher. Thanks.

I have the std. hgt. compact quick release and its still only about 18-19 in hgt., since you only want to replace the shield check out Memphis shades windshieldsas they offer replc. shields as well for HD hardware and you can get them in varying hgts.

Thanks, Matt. I looked at the Memphis site didn't see a taller one. I'll give those folks a call. Mine is the quick release type as well.

I dont think h-d makes a taller one but mine was buffeting me enough to blur my vision, i'm 6' and i have a 'Q'-'R' standard height, the air was coming from the bottom up, so i got some stiff plain plastic mud flaps trimmed them to a smaller size and drilled holes so i could zip tie them to the back of the forks at the bottom of windshield ,wow what a difference, and on &off in seconds, great for long highway rides.maybe this will help, ride safe.

I'm 6'1" and use a Memphis Fats 21" shield. It works well. The 17" height that I started with created too much buffeting. My theory is "get'em short or get'em tall--but never in between."

You can also try here http://www.nationalcycle.com/. They have a few at 23 inches. I had the Harley Davidson quick detach, but I was looking through it not over it and everything was distorted and I just didn't feel comfortable sight-wise with it on. I ended up shaving it down about 4 inches and it works good for me.
