And more importantly I can afford it.

After reading up o the new changes for 2016, I decided to buy new rather than used. I like the idea of picking up a bike with 10 miles on it, no one else's farts on the seat, doing all the mods myself, etc, etc.

At the dealer they're listed for about $11k. I figure if I present with cash I can walk out at $10.5. The exact bike I want is currently sitting on the showroom floor

But one of the salesmen has a client who got a 2015 a few months ago, rode it a little bit, and decided its not for him, so its been sitting in the garage, VERY low miles.

I can have it for $9500, and Harley will do the transfer and I will retain all the new owner perks, warranties, etc.

I don't like the wire wheels as much as the mags, but I do think they fit the bike, and I could upgrade the rear shocks with the saved cash. The only part that bothers me is the thinner front forks.

What do you guys think?
Call dealers within a 200-250 mile radius of you and get them to text you a OTD price. Then see if your local guy is willing to meet or beat it.
We were ready to drive to Austin from Houston for a deal, and a local Houston dealer finally decided beat the Austin dealers price. And only 5 miles away.
U haul rents trailers for $15 a day and thats how we were going to bring it home from Austin.
Regardless of the sales price, with HD dealers it's always the OTD price that really matters.
$9500 isn't that great of a deal. HD is currently missing their sales quota.

Paying cash won't help you. They make money from the financing, if you use Harley's financing, and will occasionally lower the selling price. It's worth asking about. A question should be free. Having the cash, you can pay it off, immediately. The '15 doesn't sound like much of a deal, once you consider a year's worth of depreciation. With the '16, you'll also have an additional year of warranty, if that matters to you.

It’s worth it for the 49mm front end alone, I test rode one and it’s rock solid. Really has me considering one vs. a dyna, since I am downsizing. I love my current ride, well I’ve loved all of them, but I’ve missed my sporty from the first day I sold it. The glide is rediculously good, in every way possible, but the sporty is just fun! (I am starting a business and sacrifices need to be made, for the curious)

IMO the 16 is the way to go with the bigger forks and other upgrades. I don't care for the Harley mag wheels and even though I have aftermarket mags on mine, I like the spokes on the 48. that's the only mod I would do

I agree, I have a 2014 and cant stand the suspension front and rear. It's my on to do list when I have extra money. If Harley made the improvements as they claim then its worth it. I looked at one in the showroom the other day and I dig the larger forks tubes. Makes it look even better.

I would never buy new, never did. Waste of money.

The upgrades on the 48 are not significant. The forks look better, but I dont buy they " handle better". My 2011 handles just fine. I would only pay more for ABS.

If you are buying new then I doubt you will get 10.5 OTD. I would say 11.3 would be a good deal.

If you are buying used $9500 is too high. You could buy a used one with low miles for closer to 8. And that's the deal I would go for.
Never liked anything but spokes on a bike.

Good luck.

For the extra grand you get a newer bike, with the latest stock equipment including the desirable adjustable suspension. Think about resale time and residuals. No brainer.

There's a couple things you have to consider...did the owner of the 2015 do the 1k service already? thats $300 right there. If your buying used you save on set up and freight. Then again the 2016 has a much better ride. I currently have a 2011 and I work for HD and I the first time I took the 16 out it blew me away at how much better the front end felt. The brakes feel awesome and the rear shocks are very good for stock. I like the mags due to the fact you dont gotta worry about the tubes anymore. There's pros and cons to both. Someone also said earlier about another model year of depreciation...that's huge for residual value. For me in your situation I would go with the 2016.
