Default Final pics of my 1989 Sportster build

Long story short I bought the bike a little while back, it looked decent when I bought it but I wanted more from it. So over the last 6 months or so I have been making changes to the bike. I have lots of pictures of the build and I picked a few to share with you guys... The last few pics is of the bike as of last night! Glad to be mostly done(ish) with the build so I can ride and enjoy!

Also wanted to say thanks to anyone who helped me, I have asked lots of questions and everyone has been super cool and helpful!

The pics are posted in chronological order from when I got it until now.

Thank you! I really love this bike, planning on keeping it for ever and eventually giving it to my lady or my kids one day!

Guys I'm having some carb issues - read below:

So after a couple months of modifications to my bike (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s....php?t=1928887) I finally got to turn it on the other day. Thankfully everything started fine and the bike ran well. So yesterday I went to turn the bike on, and gas started flowing out of the carb over flow tube to the bottom of my bike.

My hose also looked super messed up for some reason?

I don't understand why this is happening after the bike was running fine the previous day? I'm thinking maybe the gas can I used to fill the tank was dirty (even though I put fresh gas in it). According to service manual the first thing to check is if my cap is vented which it is because it worked perfectly fine on my previous paughco tank. Although the other day I was swirling some gas in the new tank and put a piece of plastic between the cap and the tank to make sure no gas leaked on my new paint, maybe I messed up the cap?

The only other thing I did recently to the carb was put a new metal cap on it to replace the ugly stock plastic one, but I was very careful I don't think I did anything wrong.

I also tried turning the petcock off and running the bike until it died to "clear" out what ever issue is going on but when I turned the petcock on and ran the bike the gas came pouring out again. Also even when I turn the bike off and leave the petcock on the gas still pours out the overflow tube....

Do I need to clean something? What should I do to fix this issue, I want to ride my bike so bad its been months!!

That or the shutoff valve (I forget what it is technically called) that seats and turns off the gas once the bowl is full might need replacing.

Definitely something along this line...
Sometimes a thorough cleaning will help dislodge if it is an errant piece of dirt or grit in the wrong place. Then a rebuild may be in order.
Should be easy to fix.

I agree. Sounds like the needle and seat, for the float in the carb, has a piece of trash stuck in it, keeping it from closing.. It could be a tiny piece of the fuel line, as you said it looks messed up. That's my guess. Good luck, bike is nice!

Needle and seat! That's the one. I chased the same problem on a Yamaha of mine years ago. Turns out the float had a hole in it in one of the carbs, an I had to replace the needle and seat. These problems can just pop up out of nowhere.

Take the carb apart, clean everything really really well. Make sure the float height is set correctly. And try it again.
