Why do Sportys vibrate?
#44
I used to see Harley at red lights and I would think bolts and nuts are about to fly off at any second.
The thing that was a huge shock for me is that the vibration dies way down as rpms go up.
My 650cc Yamaha V Star has rubber mounted handlebars and rubber mounts for the rear view mirrors.
My 1200cc Sporters has metal on metal for both handlebars and rear view mirrors.
The mirrors on the Sportster vibrate far less.

Obviously at 1,000 rpm everything vibrates regardless.

The mirrors on my V Star 650 are Arlen Ness brand. Which is allegedly high quality.
High quality mirrors make the difference. I've swapped out several different types of mirrors, the low cost ones always vibrate like a mother. The more expensive ones, even loose ball mount ones, don't vibrate at all.

Harleys going back into the mists of time have had rubber-mounted bars, so unless someone has changed yours they should be fine. They certainly shouldn't be uncomfortable to ride with.
