Default Top clamp / speedo gurus

06 xl883c.

On the left is my top clamp with the speedo housing built in. The right is another top clamp from an earlier model. Bolts don't line up to my risers. I want to move my speedo to accommodate a tank lift. So question is, if I cut out the speedo housing from the original housing, will enough structural integrity be maintained to hold my bars? I can use the other clamp on the right. They just require new risers and don't want to spend any more money.

In further thought. New risers are probably the way to go. I see hd has the risers for $150. That's crazy. Anyone source the appropriate risers from Jp cycle or elsewhere that will for the factory too clamp pictured on the right?

All you need to do is go to Ebay and search for "Sportster risers"
and you'll get a plethora of results. If you do a pull-back style
you need to make sure you some tall enough to accommodate
whatever distance your tank lift is.

hope this helps,

T.

Yeah. Decided cutting that clamp isn't a good idea. I ordered some straight risers off ebay just now for a decent price. Thanks for the input. Sometimes I come on here just to think "out loud" as much I am asking a question!
