I have a similar problem. Not a lot of oil, but enough to mess up the pipes, pants, etc. I am going to try the cheap fix first....the sponge/rag lodged between the cover and the filter at the bottom.

Thanks for the info!
Yeah give it a shot. I know it sounds Ghetto, but it really works, and not one person has said "hey, what this for?" because they dont even know it is there.

Cost? ZERO!
Just went out to the garage and "fixed" my Big Sucker oil problem

I don't have a cover, how do I do a cheap fix? I can't hide a sponge.

I have done the mod, it is a piece of cake. I cannot find the right barbed fittings anywhere, so I use 3/16 steel brake line instead.
I drilled 2 holes right in the center, the holes are slightly smaller than the brake line, I have to tap them in with a hammer, they do fit in the holes snugly. I used JB weld to plug the original vents on the backing plate. I run 2 rubber hoses from each vent to the bottom of the carb, put a tee there and run another hose all the way down to the bottom of the frame. I will give it a few days ride to see the result, stay tuned.

Just an update, I rode 200+ miles after the AC mod, not a single drop of oil, happy camper now. I end up putting a K&N filter at the end of the breather hose.

Iused a t-fitting on the backside of my backing plate. At the T-fitting,theoil would drop into the bottom portion of the hose. Just dump it whenever you change the oil. I believe HDshould have incorporated this technique into their models...as even the Twin Cams never escaped thisoily escapade.
